Welcome to our homepage on the World Wide Web! We're glad you stopped by. Tanglewood is a community of 826 homes located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Our Neighborhood Watch is an on going program of neighbors looking out for each other. The Watch started in 1995 and presently has over eighty active members. Teams patrol the streets of Tanglewood 365 days a year and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police. This page will be used to post recent crimes reported by residents and the Montgomery County Police for the Tanglewood community. The addresses listed refer to hundred blocks only.

Neighborhood Watch Information

NEWS: Since the last newsletter many new residents have moved into Tanglewood. This is the perfect time to first say welcome to the community.  You have probably seen the Neighborhood Watch patrols and wandered who these people were. For the benefit of all the residents of Tanglewood, we would like to share some information with you.

WHO WE ARE: Eleven years ago the area crime rate was so bad that a group of concerned Tanglewood residents held a meeting to discuss a neighborhood watch program. We started with a group of one hundred volunteers and began daily patrols in February 1995. After the first year the crime rate dropped drastically and today we see little criminal activity in Tanglewood.

THE FUTURE: Where we started with a hundred volunteers our number is now half of that, somewhere around 48 people and most of them have been doing this for a long time.

This means that we can cover patrols on the average of four nights a week instead of the seven that we covered for a number of years. Many Watch members have moved out of the community the past several years and in most cases the new residents that purchased those homes have not chosen to participate in the program. We’ll keep doing this as long as we have an impact and we have people who care. This is your community. Please help out and volunteer two hours of your time just eight to nine times a year. You can sign up by mailing the form from this newsletter, by calling 301-890-7388, or by sending email to:

TANGLEWOOD DIRECTORY: The Neighborhood Watch maintains a directory of addresses and phone numbers of those residents who wish to be contacted by our patrols should they notice a garage door left open, interior vehicle light left on or observe any suspicious activity. Over time many of the phone numbers have changed and it’s to the point where we have to start over. No one likes a wrong number at 10:00 pm. If you would like to be listed in the directory, please provide us with your address and phone number.

You may send in the sign up form or simply call 301-890-7388 and leave the information.

Remember, we are started from scratch so if you were previously listed you will need to sign up again.
